What is Slow Food Oxon?

We are one of nearly 1,000 Convivia (local chapters) of Slow Food International, which was founded in 1986 in Italy. Slow Food has grown into an international network with members and convivia all over the world.

What is Slow Food all about?

Eating is fundamental to our existence: Slow Food believes that raising the quality of our food and the amount of time we take to enjoy it is a simple way to improve our lives. The organisation also notes that what we eat not only has a profound effect on us: it affects our landscapes, traditions and the biodiversity of the earth. These connections cannot be ignored. Slow Food therefore promotes not only the pleasure of eating, but responsibility for sustainable agriculture and production, and education in these areas.

Our Membership

Slow Food Oxon has over 80 members, and is an active group, hosting regular events which combine education, fun and good dining. Our events are open to non-members as well as members, but if you would like to get the best from the Slow Food organisation, we suggest you join by filling in the membership form.

Once you’re a member, you’ll be able to access the members’ area of this site, which includes contact details and profiles of other members, a discussion forum, recipes, restaurant and producer recommendations and event reports.

We hope to meet with you soon at one of our events, or at one of Slow Food’s international festivals, like the Salone del Gusto - the next one is in Turin in October 2010.

To find out more, contact our local co-ordinator, Tamara Schiopu - leader@slowfood-oxon.org.uk.
