Dear Slow Food Members:

This is my monthly update on Slow Food Oxon events and other matters.

Recent events – Meeting an Artisan Chocolate Maker

1 May, Burgers of Marlow, organised by Muryel Boulay

Boy, wasn’t that a sweet event!! Thank you Muryel for your efforts and support and also – thank you to all those who attended and helped make it a success!

I never thought I would one day learn so much about chocolate, and eat it too! It was very informative, fun and tasty. If you are ever in Marlow, don’t miss a cup of hot chocolate at Burgers of Marlow on High St (www.burgersofmarlow.co.uk). We shall also add them onto our list of Recommended Places

Events to come:

12 May, Saturday - Slow Food Oxon stand at the Energy Burst exhibition, South Park, Oxford (sponsored by Oxfordshire Food Group)

I shall be there with a stand, but I still need someone to help, please let me know if you can spare 5 hours (12-5pm).

19 May, Saturday – Asparagus tasting at Tolhurst Organic Produce, South Oxon, 2pm-4:30pm

The tasting will start with a farm walk in the filed, to see the asparagus plantation (same place to park your car). Then we will go to the shed, where Food Writer Sophie Grigson (SF Oxon member, too) will take us through different types of asparagus and cooking methods. I will serve my favourite spinach soup before the tasting. And Ian Bird will help us choose some good wine to match the greens. Depending on weather, bring appropriate gear, but the tasting will be in the shed, so don’t worry too much. Sophie also will bring her new book “Vegetables” for those who want to buy it with an autograph. Price for this event is £10 for members, £15 for non-members, and we shall close the booking line at 25 this time. Thank you all who’ve signed up, I will send you directions. Please sign up by 12 May latest, to get details and directions in time.

20 May, Sunday, SF Oxon Stand at Appleton Community market. The stand is offered for free and we hope to be there and enjoy their exiting launch programme. Thank you! to those who are volunteering to do this day.

14-15 July – Children’s Food Festival. Both our Convivium Members – Sophie Grigson and Raymond Blanc are Patrons of the festival. So far, we have 5 volunteers to help, we could do with lots more!

Other events:

2-13 May, Henley Food Festival – don’t miss it!!!

With Slowest Wishes,
