Slow Food event update - November 2007

Dear Slow Food Oxon members, Hola! I am back from the Slow Food International Congress in Mexico, inspired and full of ideas, including cooking. Thank you! again to all those who supported my trip to Puebla. I am now looking forward to sharing my impressions in a slide show when we meet next time. Speaking of which, our Christmas “bring and share” dinner is fast approaching, now only 2 weeks to go. As planned, we would like to invite you to an informal event on Saturday, 1 December, this time in Oxford at Oxford Brookes University in the cosy Buckley BG10 room. Those who came 2 years ago will agree that it is a very good place for this purpose, with plenty of room, kitchen facilities, wide screen for the slide show and free and plentiful parking. The evening will start at 5pm and this year we decided to give it a “Terra Madre” twist, with Christmas dishes cooked by our members and inspired by different countries. We have a wealth of various countries represented in our Convivium and if you take into account those that you visited or watched on TV then the range is unlimited, so have a thought about a country that you would like to represent and bring us a dish, which maybe they eat at Christmas. Or maybe – not. The good thing about this is that everybody will believe your story and will think that it should taste exactly as it tastes and looks. For example I am going to bring a Moldovan Christmas dish, any challengers? Anyway, it is going to be fun and merry, oh, by the way, do bring a favourite drink, too. Non-alcoholic drinks are welcome too ;) This event will not involve any cost on our part, but I am asking you to still sign up, by emailing, because we need to know the numbers and also – to balance savoury and sweet dishes. Thank you, Jane and Pete for offering to help on the day. I would welcome any other volunteers to help set the room up and clear up afterwards. Please let me know. To sum up: Slow Food Oxon “Terra Madre Christmas” bring-and-share dinner Saturday, 1 December, 5pm – 7pm Oxford Oxford Brookes University London Road OX3 0BP When you sign up I will email you parking and entry directions, With my Slowest Regards, Tamara
